A clash with Rampage is pretty much a sure thing for Rashad Evans, but for now he will concentrate on Thiago Silva for UFC 108.
“It has been tiresome just answering the same question about wanting to know if I’m going to fight Rampage,” Evans said. “‘Is it going to happen? How much do you dislike him?’ All that stuff. But I’ve made it a point not to get distracted on what I want to do because Thiago is a very hungry fighter.
I think Rashad’s wrestling will stop any effort from Silva to utilize his BJJ skills on him. Granted this is even if it goes to the ground. The only reason I could see it going to the ground is if the both of them get really tired. In a 3 round fight, I don’t see that happening. Yes Thiago has punching power, but Rashad’s handspeed will slow down Thiago’s chance to connect with his face. Rashad has a pretty good chin too, as is evident by the number of shots he took to the head in the last moments of his fight against Machida.
If memory serves me right. I think Rampage has two more fights left on his contract. Rampage was partially upset that he did not get a title shot with which he felt he so righteously deserved. At this point, I get the feeling that Dana White could care less if Rampage is a part of his roster or not. If this is the case, I say give Rampage a shot at the champion for his first fight back. Rampage should have terrible ring rust, and will more than likely lose, regardless if Machida or Rua is the champion at the time of the fight. Rampage’s second fight should then be against Rashad Evans. I think in comparison to Rampage, Rashad is too well rounded and much much quicker. I’d predict Rashad winning by stoppage and this would help give Dana the ability to say he knew Rampage was no longer a fighter able to compete against high level competition. Thus leaving Rampage happy (in a sense) that he fulfilled his contractual obligations, Dana happy that his hands will be washed of Rampage, and the rest of us able to anxiously await the release of The A-Team 2.
