For many people when they hear the word MMA they often think of two people in a small ring kicking each other with a crowd chanting endlessly. In particular, when you have a weakness in your training, you will need to do what is necessary to improve upon you weaknesses and make your game stronger. One of the best ways to do this is through isolation sparring. What is isolation sparring? It is exactly as its name would imply. It is a form of sparring where the rules are very targeted and the number of techniques will be limited. From this method of training, it may become possible to improve an area or weakness or make an area of strength even more formidable.
Probably the most basic of isolation sparring drills is jab sparring. As the name implies, jab sparring means two individuals in the Baltimore MMA scene can get in the ring and spar. However, they will be limited to only using the jab. They can throw any number of combinations of jabs to the head or body, but they are limited to only the jab. Now, some may wonder how only one technique can be allowed in a sparring match. Well, while only one punching technique is allowed, all defensive movements (parry, cover, slip, catch, etc) and footwork (forward, backwards, side to side, etc) will be in play. In engaging in this type of sparring continually, the development of lead hand skills can become enormously successful.
Isolation drills can also be varied so that they can cover a number of different facets of Baltimore MMA training. Wrestling drills centering on one person pinning and the other person escaping would be a common drill. Or, having one person box while the other person’s goal is to perform a wrestling takedown would be another variant of isolation style sparring. And, of course, this methodology can greatly help enhance skills in various areas.
Those looking to succeed on the Baltimore MMA scene will surely want to invest training time in isolation sparring drills. These drills will definitely increase one’s skill levels and improve overall performance. And, of course, there are most desirable training goals to achieve.

When MMA first exploded on the scene about 15 years ago, there were precious few videos on the subject and virtually no material in print. This was largely due to the fact that there were not many instructors qualified to teach the material in such formats. Today, there are scores upon scores of books, magazines, DVDs, and computer programs that cover the subject of MMA. Many of these media presentations are quite excellent. Some of the top stars on the Baltimore MMA scene may point to such supplemental training material as having a tremendous influence on their career. Yet, there will still be those that might knock the value of such training material. Why is this? Simply put, they have a myopic vision towards how one can learn MMA.

Thankfully, such low quality items are rare as most producers put forth much clearer and properly developed material.
It should also go without saying that in order to get the most out of such training, it is necessary to practice and train as much as possible. You cannot humanly possible acquire skill from simply watching the material! This should be a given! So, no matter what type of media presentation you are viewing, it becomes necessary to take the material and practice it. Do this and you will discover your goals will be easily met.
