Here’s one of the best martial arts training tips you can ever get.
The first thing a master does is detect and avoid situations, if you want to win every fight don’t get involved in the first place, that’s how you really win!
It’s important to develop the kind of awareness that lets you know quickly who’s around you and what kind of a feeling you get from them. It’s using your intuition or gut feeling – when something doesn’t feel right, act on it quickly because you will usually be right.
Here are a couple of examples:
• You’re walking down the street at night you clock a couple of people that could be a threat – so you cross the road and avoid them – smart!
• You walk into a bar and the atmosphere doesn’t feel right, some drunks are acting unpredictably and your gut tells you it feels uncomfortable – so you leave and avoid potential trouble.
Here’s how I think of it. There are 3 kinds of people:-
1. Those that think nothing will happen
2. Those that think something could happen
3. Those that think something will happen.
If we think nothing will happen where naive, we walk around blind and these are the kind of victims that get attacked because they are easy prey.
If we think something will happen, well that’s just paranoid and not good!
If you think something could happen it’s perfect because it ensures you keep your wits about you and are just street smart, you see things before they happen.
A very important factor to avoiding, is your body language, we either communicate that where a victor or a victim. Can you picture them both in your mind, attackers almost always choose the victim, the unconfident person to attack, why because they look weak and won’t fight back!
The victor is the confident person, they walk tall, with their shoulders back and chin up, and they make good eye contact with people and smile too! If you don’t feel you’re that confident – Fake It Till You Make It, pretend you are and practice the victors body language, you are much less likely to be selected when you communicate with people in this way!
Another important point is to be a proactive person, we either wander around with the attitude of a hand shake or fists up mentality – friendly or aggressive – it’s obvious that if you are aggressive and angry you will attract situations that may lead to physical confrontations.
We all probably know someone that seems to attract trouble and it’s always what someone else has done that caused it. No! Its how you choose to react that is the difference; you see we can always choose our response let me give you an example.
You’re driving down the street and someone cuts you up, your furious and waving your fists and shouting at the person. They drive off and that the end of it for them, but you carry this anger around with you for a couple more hours and let the other person control how you feel. You can choose to let things go in an instant by just reminding yourself that you choose how you react – I decide how I feel not other!
Use these karate training tips and they will serve you well!
Here’s to being confident and in awesome shape!

Tai Chi Chi Kung / Qi Gong by definition refers to energy work. In this post I will try to shed some light on what is meant by the energy work aspect of the practice.
Qi Gong is often taught as a set of moves separate from the Tai Chi sets. I have found that the vast majority of the time these other moves do not come with much of an explanation of why and how they are any different from the Tai Chi in the sets and that the moves by themselves do not impart any kind of ability different than what is already available in the Tai Chi sets.
So, what is Qi Gong? First of all the Tai Chi moves are just choreography or moves until you begin to actually to practice the energetic aspects of the art. The real practice of the art is Chi Kung / Qi Gong. As soon as you start practicing the energetic aspects then you are really practicing Tai Chi (probably with the moves) and not just the moves. At that same moment you are now practicing and or applying the Qi Gong.
The first portion of the DVD focuses on information and history of the sword. It was very interesting and informative. It’s a lecture on the sword that includes Chinese proverbs on the sword. This portion was very interesting if you are interested in all things martial as I am. Dr. Yang then teaches 27 fundamental techniques with the sword. The instruction is very clear, and Dr. Yang brings out students to assist him in showing applications of the techniques. So many DVDs would just show the movement once or twice and move on to the next. Dr. Yang provides so much more, and it is really refreshing to see an instructor who goes above and beyond while teaching.
Like a double-edged sword, each side is important if the practitioner is to be truly successful. The first part, your physical training should arm you with not just physical techniques, but an understanding of the critical principles and concepts that are being taught by the technique examples. This way, you won’t have to depend on the preset techniques themselves, but instead will be able to operate in the moment, not against a stylized attack but, against whatever your attacker is throwing at you. Some of these foundational concepts include:
1) Cover
2) Strategic angling and positioning
3) Timing and flow
4) Proper distance
5) etc.
The second relates to attitude, or “heart.” No matter how tough you are, or feel in class with your friends, peers, and junior students, what matters in a real self-defense encounter is how you act and deal with the raw, animalistic violence being thrown at you by someone who isn’t pulling their punches and doesn’t care about your well-being at all. Will you focus or fold? The only thing that will matter is what you do when the moment is on you.
The next step in solo practice is all Qi Gong. You begin to work different aspects of energy within your study both for fighting and for self defense purposes. There are approximately 36 different primary expressions of energy in Tai Chi. You use your mind to direct the internal movement and chi into an expression. That expression is known as Jing. Jing is an expression of Chi or energy hence it is energy work. A few jing expressions are well known and some are quite obscure

We all have enjoyed sports at one time or another in our lives, sport is super fun, enjoyable, exciting and it gives you a superb bout of a healthy body, brain and soul. But what are the best known sports around? Why do people adore them? Let’s take a quick look at the most played games.
Football
Probably one of the best known sports in the world, countries come together whenever a football match is broadcast. Whether it’s the world cup or the fa cup final, football is a truly exciting game to play and too view.
Boxing
We have seen some great boxers come and go such as Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and many more. Some of the best entertainment comes from watching two people fight in the ring. Performing boxing yourself may not be everyone’s preferred choice, but for most people jumping into the ring is a moment come true.
Golf
A game that almost anyone of any age can play. I remember visiting theme parks and playing crazy golf, the game can be very relaxing and very exciting at the same time. It’s a bit of the opposite of boxing, in golf you actually like to play the game rather than viewing it on the TV, which can be slightly dull. Let’s face it, it’s hardly as enthralling as watching extreme sports performers hurtling down the mountain side on their snowboards is it?
Rugby
Another sport that is quite similar to football, a lot of people tend to support various rugby clubs and are keen to see them play every week. The fame of this game has grown uncontrollably over the last few years.
F1 Racing
This is still undecided as to whether it is a sport or not. In my mind how much fitness can you totally get from controlling a car or a vehicle. There are a lot of people that do like watching F1, in my personal view I could not imagine of something more boring than sitting there and watching car speeding around. I would rather watch people going round the track on second hand bikes to be honest.

Since MMA is known for its wide array of cross training it has drawn many people looking for the health benefits while other train to get into competitions with the ultimate goal of fighting in the UFC. Martial arts schools are beginning to teach multiple styles as opposed to the traditional approach where only one style is learned and built upon. In this article we will go over 4 key areas that will help your quest of becoming an MMA fighter or just in better shape. We are assuming that you don’t have access to any MMA training camps like you would if you lived in Vegas. These four elements can be used in any town across the US.
1. Kicking and Punching (Muy Thai, Karate, Boxing)
This work is to quicken you hand and feet work and can be done with a heavy back o if you can train with a partner who can hold either the kicking bags or focus mitts. To improve the quickness and targeting on your punches and kicks train with the focus mitts. The heavy bag is more of a power building movement which give you a lot of knockout power.
2. Strength training (Power Cleans, Snatch, Jerk)
Most of you strength training needs to consist of compound exercises. What this means is that you will choose lifting exercises that use more than one muscle when doing it. Unlike body builders that want to isolate the muscle for maximum growth you want to train your muscle to work together and have then fire exactly at the same time. Lifting heavy weights is exactly how you do this. In MMA your core strength is key to power and to strengthen this it is best to stick with Olympic style lifts. Power cleans, the cleans, and the jerk are the absolute best lifts to develope your explosiveness and quickness as well as your core. When it comes to training always choose a dumbell over a barbell and a barbell over a machine Although machines have their place when it comes to physical development and exercise it is much better for martial arts training to choose the barbell and even better the dubmell. So, for any movements you can utilize dumbells use them. This type of training will pay large benefits in explosiveness since both your left and right side muscles will explode in sync.
3. Ground Training (Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be difficult to train on your own but you can get BJJ dummies that really help simulate a partner to practice your submissions. To practice this part of your game it is best to join a school or class. Even if you can get to class once a week and train at home the rest of the time can provide a great deal of benefits~If time or traveling is an issue you can even train at home while making it to an MMA Training at least one day a week to train in the correct techniques. One secret is to look at your local highschool. A lot of coaches would love to have another assistant coach that will get down and roll with the kids while you get a fantastic workout.
4. MMA Training
MMA is a game of being well rounded and not specific to one style of martial arts. This can make it tough to train since a lot of schools and trainers don’t have multiple skills yet. A lot of the traditional martial arts like Taekwondo and Karate instructors are starting to training in various other martial arts to become more well rounded for their students. Many traditional Taekwondo schools have moved towards teaching their student some ground movements. So whether you have a school close by that trains in all the different disciplines or you have to go multiple places to get your MMA workouts and get better it is well worth it.
